Contribute to the development of a Technical Specification Manual for Indigenous communities

The First Nations National Building Officers Association (FNNBOA) in partnership with the Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC) is developing a technical specification manual (TSM) focusing on Indigenous communities.

Inspectors, technical service providers and contractors are, in many cases, left on their own to interpret the building codes, housing standards related to building materials and manufacturer’s specifications. In many cases, there are several books, reference guides, manufacturer’s installation manuals and other documents that everyone needs to readily be available. For many of us, this can be overwhelming especially for those who operate with limited resources and personnel.

FNNBOA and CCMC want to develop a TSM where technical service providers, inspectors as well as building contractor can use one core document as reference. A TSM will help to facilitate the provisions of information prescribed by the building codes and standards; provide detailed, technical and product specific requirements for construction materials, outline the roles and responsibilities between the contractor and the inspectors; and provide procedures for quality control (e.g., use of standard contracts) and inspections.

This TSM will be continuously updated and be made available online.

We look forward to your input which should be sent no later than March 10th, 2018.

Thank you in advance,

Keith Maracle
